Money for the purchase of materials will be accepted only with the understanding that the system exercises the final responsibility for deciding which titles will be purchased. The librarian will consult with the donor to insure, so far as possible, that the selections are mutually satisfactory. Gift funds will be spent for useful materials which the library could not otherwise afford. Gifts of materials are accepted with the understanding that they will be evaluated according to library needs and either assigned to the library collections, offered FOR SALE to the public, or discarded. The library prefers not to appraise gifts for income tax purposed, however, the general estimated value of books is based on 1/3 of the original price if the books is in good condition and copyrighted within the last five (5) years. All gift materials will be processed and located in the appropriate collection of the library. A special book plate may be placed in gift books indicating the name of the donor, the name of the person in whose honor the books may be given, and the name of the library to which the book is donated. letters of acknowledgement will be sent to the donors of memorials and special gifts and, when applicable, to the family of the person whose name the book is given. gift book are purchased from the library's supplier at the best discounted price available. Gifts of mass market paperback books may be added to the
collection of adult paperbacks or maintained as trade/exchange paperback
collection in some branches. Because of their great popularity, these books may
be made available despite the fact that they may not meet the usual standards of
literary quality used in buying materials for the library. These materials shall
be housed in the Adult department of the library and clearly designated as
"Adult Paperback."
